About Us

Built in 1930, the Mott Foundation Building is an impressive 16-story Art Deco building at the corner of First and Saginaw Streets in downtown Flint. As a premier office building and historic landmark, it has been the main headquarters of the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation since 1944 and is also home to numerous other legal, financial and professional offices.

Because of the Mott Foundation Building's rich history, and in an effort to provide more detailed information, we invite you to peruse the site. Please click any link below to get started.

The Mott Foundation Building's four passenger elevators were installed in 1930 and have been in continual use since that time. However, the elevator's once state-of-the-art automatic dispatching system has become extremely hard to maintain and it is very inefficient in comparison to today’s computer-operated systems. Therefore, the decision has been reached to modernize that system, as well as to upgrade and/or replace much of the elevator’s mechanical equipment.

Preliminary design and planning activities to update the elevators has begun. Actual work on the elevators is scheduled to begin in January 2009. The work will be completed in stages, allowing at least two or three cars to remain in operation at all times. Otis Elevator plans to complete the work by early 2010 with little, if any, disruption to elevator service.

Updates on this project will be posted to this Webpage as information is available.
