Goal
To respond to unique opportunities related to the development of civil society internationally.
Objectives
Philanthropy and Nonprofit Sector: To promote a vibrant and independent nonprofit and philanthropic sector in select countries and internationally.
Special Opportunities: To pursue unique and compelling opportunities that fall outside the scope of other areas under this program.
This program area allows us the flexibility to respond to important grantmaking opportunities. In particular, we support efforts that strengthen philanthropy and the nonprofit sector as a means of enabling people to work together to solve common problems. Currently, our focus is to develop regional and global philanthropic membership associations, and also community foundations internationally. We give greater consideration to initiatives in North America and Europe because of our long-term interests in the U.S. and our significant grantmaking investments in Central/Eastern Europe and Russia.
