The program goal is to consolidate and strengthen the philanthropic community in Hungary. During the grant period, the Hungarian Donors Forum will increase its membership, develop its member services, increase its organizational capacity and financial sustainability, and cooperate with similar organizations in Central and Eastern Europe on efforts to develop philanthropy. The forum was formally registered in 2005. The forum's mission is to promote philanthropy, support the development of civil society, and improve the effectiveness and impact of indigenous grantmakers in Hungary. Currently, the forum has ten members. The forum's main achievements to date include organizing the annual Top Philanthropist award for corporate donors, delivering capacity-building workshops to its members, and promoting good grantmaking practice.

The program goal is to consolidate and strengthen the philanthropic community in Bulgaria. During the grant period, the Bulgarian Donors' Forum will increase its membership, develop its services for member and nonmember organizations, cooperate with similar organizations in Central and Eastern Europe on efforts to develop philanthropy, and strengthen its organizational capacity and financial sustainability. The forum was established in 2004 with the mission to promote the development of civil society and philanthropy in Bulgaria. During 2007-2010, the forum's achievements included increasing its membership substantially in a short period of time, providing high-quality services to its members and other clients, pioneering new giving mechanisms, and participating actively in international initiatives of donor associations in Europe and globally.

The program goal is to mobilize financial resources and promote philanthropy in Bulgaria. To this end, the Bulgarian Charities Aid Foundation will promote workplace and payroll giving schemes, administer corporate giving programs, and train nongovernmental organizations on local resource mobilization and financial management. The foundation was established in 1995 with the mission to develop philanthropy in Bulgaria and increase resources available for charitable purposes. The foundation is on the forefront of developing innovative approaches to unlocking financial resources through individual and corporate giving in Bulgaria. The foundation's key achievements in 2008-2009 include raising over $850,000 from individuals and companies in Bulgaria for regranting, developing philanthropic programs for seven new companies, and organizing 6,000 hours of corporate volunteering.

The Mott Foundation, through its
Civil Society program, provides grants to nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) working in four countries that joined the European Union (EU) in 2004 – the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia – and two that joined in 2007, Bulgaria and Romania. These countries are commonly called, “
EU New Member States.”

Romanian visitors take tips from the Community Foundation for CalderdaleRomanians interested in learning how to transform a community-based organization into a community foundation visited the Community Foundation for Calderdale in the United Kingdom. Staff from the Association for Community Relations, a Mott grantee, said it was educational to meet both board and staff to better understand their different functions.
